The Preston Davey case is continuing to prompt serious discussion about whether vulnerable children are being adequately protected when concerns arise across multiple services.
Preston was seen by healthcare professionals and other agencies several times during the months before his death. Police were also contacted following a hospital visit, yet the safeguarding system did not prevent the abuse that ultimately led to his death. ξ
A local child safeguarding practice review is examining the involvement of agencies including social care, healthcare, police and education. The national safeguarding review panel is also working alongside the local review to identify lessons that could help prevent similar failures in the future.
The focus now extends beyond the courtroom: Were warning signs missed, and what changes are needed to ensure vulnerable children receive stronger protection?
The answers could have implications far beyond Prestonβs case, potentially influencing how professionals identify risks, share information and respond when concerns emerge.
