🥺💙 BORN WITH PART OF HIS BRAIN IN HIS NOSE — THEN A LIFE-CHANGING SURGERY GAVE OLLIE A NEW BEGINNING 🧠✨

When little Ollie Trezise was born in February 2014, his parents immediately knew their son’s journey would be unlike anything they had imagined. 💔👶

During a routine 20-week pregnancy scan, his mother, Amy, was first told that something unusual had been detected. Doctors later discovered that Ollie had a rare condition called encephalocele — a birth defect in which brain tissue and the protective membranes surrounding it protrude through an opening in the skull. 🧠💙

In Ollie’s case, the sac had formed on his nose.

As he grew, the unusual mᴀss grew with him, eventually becoming roughly the size of a golf ball. 🥺

Because the condition could interfere with his breathing and leave the exposed tissue vulnerable to infection, Ollie needed highly specialized surgery. 🏥🙏

In November 2014, when he was still a baby, surgeons at Birmingham Children’s Hospital performed a complex operation.

They opened his skull, removed excess brain tissue and fluid from the sac, closed the opening in his skull and reconstructed his nose. The procedure lasted around two hours. 🩺✨

Ollie was left with a distinctive zigzag scar across his scalp, and further procedures were later needed to improve his airway and plan additional reconstructive and dental treatment. 💙

But the surgery changed his life.

Afterward, Ollie was able to breathe more easily and play with his sister. 🥹👫

For his mother, the goal was never to make her son “perfect.”

She loved Ollie exactly as he was.

What she wanted most was for people to stop staring at him and for his future at school not to be defined by his appearance or his scar. ❤️

And that message is perhaps the most powerful part of Ollie’s story.

🌈 His condition was rare. His surgery was extraordinary. But underneath it all, he was simply a little boy who wanted to breathe, play and grow up.

Encephalocele is an uncommon condition, and treating it can require highly specialized medical care. Ollie’s journey involved a frightening diagnosis, complex skull surgery and a long road of reconstruction. 🏥🧠

But after the dangerous mᴀss was removed and his skull was safely closed, the story became much simpler:
