An 18-month-old boy was sleeping peacefully in the backseat when his mother was fatally sh*t just steps away.
She was 22 years old and five months pregnant with another child.
More than three years later, the man accused of killing her and her unborn baby is finally facing a jury.
On January 30, 2023, Alana Sims was found beside her SUV in the Easton Park neighborhood of Tampa, Florida.
She had suffered a fatal g**sH๏τ wound to the head.
Inside the vehicle, her 18-month-old son remained asleep and unharmed.
He had no way of knowing that his mother was gone.
The case has since become one of the most closely watched m*rder trials in Hillsborough County, particularly because prosecutors allege Alana was deliberately brought to the location by someone she trusted.
The man accused of killing her is Tampa rapper Billy Adams III, known professionally as “Ace N-H.”
According to prosecutors, Adams invited Alana to meet him for a celebration after he had recently been acquitted in an unrelated double-m*rder case.
The state alleges that the invitation was actually a setup.
Prosecutors contend Adams wanted Alana and her pregnancy removed from his life so he could continue a relationship with another woman. That woman, described by prosecutors as his “main” girlfriend, later testified during the proceedings.
However, the case contains another complicated detail.
DNA testing later showed that Adams was not the biological father of Alana’s unborn baby.
Prosecutors nevertheless argue that Alana’s pregnancy remained an important part of the alleged motive.
Adams has not denied that he sh*t Alana.
But his attorneys present a dramatically different version of events.
The defense argues that Adams acted in self-defense after Alana allegedly pulled a firearm during an argument. According to his account, he managed to take the weapon from her and fired the fatal sH๏τ before later disposing of the firearm.
Prosecutors dispute that explanation.
The state argues that evidence points toward a planned attack rather than an unexpected confrontation. Investigators also allege Adams attempted to create a false timeline following Alana’s death, including recording a video with friends that prosecutors say was made to appear as though it had been filmed on the night of the killing.
Authorities further allege that Adams attempted to influence potential witnesses while incarcerated. Prosecutors say letters were sent instructing several women about what they should tell investigators, and that law enforcement intercepted those communications.
The trial officially began on August 26, 2026, in Hillsborough County.
Adams faces first-degree m*rder charges in connection with the deaths of Alana and her unborn child. If convicted, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
For Alana’s family, the courtroom proceedings represent more than a legal battle.
