Fallen Carrollton soldier Isabella Gonzales laid to rest Sunday morning

Army Pfc. Isabella Gonzales, the 19-year-old Carrollton soldier killed last month in an Iranian attack on an air base in Jordan, was buried with military honors Sunday morning.

Family, friends and fellow service members gathered at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery for the morning service.

The fallen soldier’s remains were driven through the cemetery in a hearse, followed by a procession of vehicles carrying her family, servicemen in vans, veteran bikers, friends and community members.

American flags waved as the motorcade traveled from the cemetery entrance to Gonzales’ final resting place. As the procession pᴀssed, a man stood alone on the street. Holding a cane in his left hand, he raised his right hand to his forehead, giving a final, respectful salute.

Lines of mourners surrounded a committal shelter at the cemetery as Gonzales’s family and loved ones sat inside and said their goodbyes. Among the crowd stood veterans wearing leather biker vests, active servicemen in uniform and loved ones wearing shirts with pictures of Gonzales printed across the front.

The crowd at the service grew large, leaving many to stand outside the shelter, unable to hear. Still, the line of people outside followed the lead of everyone in front of them and took their hats hats off during prayers.

After the prayers concluded, a line of servicemen lifted their rifles and fired three times, performing the three-volley salute in honor of the fallen soldier. The funeral attendees stood still as the gunsH๏τs echoed throughout the cemetery.
