The little girls were born in Pakistan with an extremely rare condition known as craniopagus twinning, meaning they were physically connected at the skull. 🧠✨ PREPARING FOR THE IMPOSSIBLE
Before the operation could even begin, doctors needed to understand exactly how the girls’ anatomy was connected.
Professor Noor ul Owase Jeelani, a British neurosurgeon, worked with an international team of specialists to create detailed digital 3D models of the twins’ heads using high-resolution medical scans.
With the help of mixed-reality technology, surgeons could examine their anatomy from different angles, study the blood vessels and carefully plan possible surgical approaches. 🌍🧠
The technology allowed the team to virtually explore the procedure before entering the operating room.
Which blood vessels could safely be separated?
Which structures had to be protected at all costs?
And in what order should each step be performed?

🏥 14 HOURS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
After extensive planning, the complex separation was carried out at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital in Türkiye in two surgical stages.
Then, on July 19, 2024, the decisive operation began.
Around 60 medical professionals took part in the extraordinary procedure.
For approximately 14 hours, surgeons and specialists worked with incredible concentration and precision to transform two physically connected babies into two independent little patients. ⏳🩺
For their parents, those hours must have felt endless.
While the medical team worked inside the operating room, all they could do was wait, hope and trust in the years of experience behind the procedure. 🙏🥺
Then came the news everyone had been waiting for:
